Limitless

A couple of years ago, there was a concert my wife and I wanted to go to, but it sold out in minutes. My wife closed her eyes and prayed, “Lord, you know we would like to go. Can you please provide free tickets?” Honestly, I laughed when she said amen. She asked me what was so funny. I told her, “There’s no way anyone is going to give us free tickets to that concert. Everyone wants to go.” I didn’t think that God could or would answer that prayer. The day before the concert, she woke up to a text from someone offering us two tickets for free because they couldn’t go. I had to repent that morning for putting a limit on God.

In Genesis 18, two angels visited Abraham . He offered them food and drink for their journey. They asked him where Sarah was and he told them she was in the tent. Then in verse 10 one angel said, “Nine months from now I will come back, and your wife Sarah will have a son” (GNT). Sarah was behind him, at the door of the tent, listening and then laughed at the prophesy. There was no way God could answer that prayer in her mind. She was too old and Abraham was even older. However, nine months later she birthed a son and named him Isaac, which meant laughter. She had put a limit on God and He showed her He can do anything.

In Mark 10:27 Jesus said, “With people [as far as it depends on them] it is impossible, but not with God; for all things are possible with God” (AMP). What situation or need do you have right now that you’re laughing and saying, “There’s no way God could answer that”? You cannot put limits on a limitless God. Sure it is impossible for you or anyone else to accomplish, but there is nothing impossible for God to do. We can’t project our human restrictions on the Almighty. Today, change your laughter into prayer. Put what can’t be done in His hands and ask Him to do it. Yes, ask Him even about the thing that you haven’t even been willing to pray about because you think it is impossible. God is able to do abundantly more than you can even ask or think. He is limitless.

Child’s Play

IMG_0093.JPG

I used to watch my son play with a toy similar to the one pictured. He would try to fit the shapes in the holes, but often got them wrong. He would get frustrated and try to force them in. He would even bang the pieces in the wood somehow hoping to make it go in where there wasn’t a hole. When he was ready to give up, he would just take his hand, move it back and forth over the pieces and make a bigger mess.

I used to show him the shapes one by one and point to the right hole. Even though I showed him which one, he would still struggle to make it work sometimes. I would show him and say, “Triangle” then point to the triangle on the box. “Triangle.” For him, it was too complicated and hard. When he couldn’t master it easily, he wanted to give up. For me, it was easy. I could do it with my eyes closed.

You and I face complicated problems every day. We try to fit all the pieces together, but they just won’t fit. We try to force them to and they won’t work right. It gets frustrating to us. We can’t see the answer to the problem and we know there has to be an easy solution. Often in our frustration we make a mess. We scatter the pieces that were supposed to come together and give up. We cry out to God for help and he just points and gives us one word answers. We end up wanting to quit in the process because it’s so difficult.

God looks down at our problems and situations like you and I look at that puzzle for my son. To Him, it’s easy. Jeremiah 32:27 says, “I am The Lord, the God of all the peoples of the world. Is anything too hard for me?” There is no situation that you or I face that isn’t child’s play to our God. There’s no problem so complicated He can’t figure it out. While you and I stare at it, fight against it and struggle to figure it out, God looks at it and sees the easy solution. He knows just what to do.

Just like my son used to do, we need to hand the pieces of our problems to God and ask Him to put the puzzle together. There’s no sense in struggling with problems we can’t figure out when we are children of the one who knows all things. There’s no shame in admitting to Him that we need help. In fact, in II Corinthians 12:9 God tells us that His strength is made perfect in our weakness. When we are able to take our problems to Him and admit we are weak, His grace become sufficient for our problems and His strength becomes our strength. Take your problems to Him today.

Nothing Is Too Hard For God

A friend of mine asked me to pray for his brother who was sick and being taken to the hospital. When he told me the diagnosis, I replied, “That’s not too hard for God.” The truth is that there is nothing too hard for Him. When we hear a diagnosis, run out of money, get our hearts broken, lose our job or anything else that affects the way we live, we tend to look at it with our human eyes. We see the impossibility of recovery instead of the God who makes all things possible. We see the negative instead of the positive.

We get so used to walking by sight that we box God in. We tell Him what He can do and can’t do. We limit His ability to make a way where there seems to be no way. We look at the situation we are trapped in and desperately try to find a way out, but all we see are blocked paths. Sometimes that’s the way it is. There’s no way out. “When God closes a door, look for a window” is not in the Bible. God allows us to be in those moments where there’s no way out so that He can show us that He’s still in charge. He wants to remind us that He is able. He wants to grow our faith.

Nothing drives us to our knees faster than being in a no way out situation. Nothing makes us depend on God more than to have no power over a situation. The Israelites were up against the Red Sea when they were leaving captivity in Egypt. Pharaoh and his army were closing in fast. There was no where to turn, no weapons to fight with and panic was setting in. They were exactly where God led them, yet they were cornered into a desperate situation. Instead of crying out to God, they complained and said they would have rather died as slaves than to be killed in the wilderness. They would have rather gone back to a life of sight than a life of faith.

In Exodus 14:13-14, Moses said to the people, “Fear not, stand firm, and see the salvation of the Lord, which he will work for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall never see again. The Lord will fight for you, and you have only to be silent (ESV).” Think about that in the situation you are in today. Don’t fear. Don’t panic. Stay calm and trust God. He will work for you today. Then it says that The Lord will fight for you. He will fight your battle so you don’t have to. You only have to be silent. Just stand back and watch God work.

He sees your situation. In fact, it’s part of His plan for your life. He’s growing you through the tough times. When your back is against the wall and there’s no way out, that’s when God does the most amazing things. It takes us not acting in fear in those times to see the victory. It takes us holding on to God’s Word to get us through. The outcome may not be the way we thought it should have happened, but it will happen the way God intended it to. No one in Israel thought The Lord would part the Red Sea. His answer may not come in the way you think it will, but it will come right on time. Remember, there is nothing too hard for God.

“Behold, I am the Lord, the God of all flesh. Is anything too hard for me? (Jeremiah 32:27 ESV)
