Matters Of The Heart

Ive heard it said that your outer world will always be a reflection of your inner world. What’s in your heart will always find a way to the surface. Jesus said that the words we say are a reflection of our heart. Proverbs says that we are who we are based on what we think in our heart. It’s no wonder that when David sinned, He asked God to create a new heart in him. He didn’t want to be the person who committed adultery and then murderer. He knew he needed to become who God wanted him to be. The truth is we all need to become who God wants us to be and it begins in our heart.

Here are some Bible verses on the importance of the heart.

1. Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.

Psalm 51:10 ESV

2. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:7 ESV

3. A calm and peaceful and tranquil heart is life and health to the body, But passion and envy are like rottenness to the bones.

Proverbs 14:30 AMP

4. So above all, guard the affections of your heart, for they affect all that you are. Pay attention to the welfare of your innermost being, for from there flows the wellspring of life.

Proverbs 4:23 TPT

5. For your heart will always pursue what you esteem as your treasure.

Matthew 6:21 TPT

Heart Choices

Some phrases you might have said are, “Put your heart into it. They were heartbroken. Invite Jesus into your heart.” We’re not referring to your physical heart that pumps blood. We’re talking about the seat of your spiritual life. That heart is just as important as your physical one. It’s what controls our actions and guides our decisions. That’s why the Bible refers to this heart so much. God gave us this seat of power and the free will to choose who sits there and controls it. Whats decided in our heart is reflected in our life. The Bible tells us several things we need to make sure we choose to do with our heart so that we will serve God with our whole life.

Here are some Bible verses on the heart.

1. Let the inner movement of your heart always be to love one another, and never play the role of an actor wearing a mask. Despise evil and embrace everything that is good and virtuous.

Romans 12:9 TPT

2. You have been raised to life with Christ, so set your hearts on the things that are in heaven, where Christ sits on his throne at the right side of God.

Colossians 3:1 GNT

3. A good person produces good things from the treasury of a good heart, and an evil person produces evil things from the treasury of an evil heart.

Matthew 12:35 NLT

4. Watch over your heart with all diligence, For from it flow the springs of life.

Proverbs 4:23 AMP

5. Move your heart closer and closer to God, and he will come even closer to you. But make sure you cleanse your life, you sinners, and keep your heart pure and stop doubting.

James (Jacob) 4:8 TPT

The Blessings Of Trust

I’ve learned that there are some people who give trust up front to everyone they meet and there are people who make everyone earn trust before they give it. Trust is something that can easily be lost and difficult to gain. Think of someone you don’t trust. What would they have to do to earn it from you? You probably just thought of a nearly impossible bar. When you do trust someone, like a doctor or other professional, you take their opinion seriously and follow it. They have a proven track record of being right and that’s why you trust them. That kind of trust is defined by Merriam Webster as, “assured reliance on the character, ability, strength, or truth of someone or something.” I love that definition of trust, especially when we apply it to God.

Peter trusted Jesus enough to get out of the boat to walk on the water. Some other people trusted Him enough to tear open a roof and to lower their friend down for healing. Moses trusted God enough to go back to Egypt and set the Israelites free. How much do you trust Him? To answer that, look at how much and what parts of your life you’ve given to Him. There are parts we all hold back from Him implying we trust ourselves more than Him in those areas. We can rely on the character, ability, strength and truth of who God is. He’s proven it since the beginning of time, yet we each hold back. It’s time we let go and trust Him with each of the areas of our lives. The more we trust Him, the greater our life becomes.

Here are some Bible verses on trusting God.

1. He who leans on and trusts in and is confident in his riches will fall, But the righteous [who trust in God’s provision] will flourish like a green leaf.

Proverbs 11:28 AMP

2. You, Lord, give perfect peace to those who keep their purpose firm and put their trust in you.

Isaiah 26:3 GNT

3. But blessed is the man who trusts me, GOD, the woman who sticks with GOD. They’re like trees replanted in Eden, putting down roots near the rivers— Never a worry through the hottest of summers, never dropping a leaf, Serene and calm through droughts, bearing fresh fruit every season.

Jeremiah 17:7-8 MSG

4. Give God the right to direct your life, and as you trust him along the way you’ll find he pulled it off perfectly!

Psalms 37:5 TPT

5. Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.

Proverbs 3:5-6 NLT
