God Lifts Us

Do you ever feel forgotten or unseen by God? One of my favorite names given to God comes from Genesis 16. Hagar felt secluded and alone as if God had not seen her suffering. When He showed up, she called Him “El Roi”, God who sees me. It’s a great reminder that God not only sees me when I feel that way, but He also shows up at the right time. There were many people who felt that way in the Bible. Not only did He see them, He lifted them up from the pit of despair and placed them in a better position. Just as God saw them and lifted them up, He sees you and will lift you up. He will not leave you where you are forever.

Here are some Bible verses on God lifting us up:

1. Humble yourselves, then, under God’s mighty hand, so that he will lift you up in his own good time.

1 Peter 5:6 GNT

2. For in the day of trouble He will hide me in His shelter; In the secret place of His tent He will hide me; He will lift me up on a rock.

Psalms 27:5 AMP

3. Your rule is eternal, and you are king forever. The Lord is faithful to his promises; he is merciful in all his acts. He helps those who are in trouble; he lifts those who have fallen.

Psalm 145:13-14 GNT

4. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up in honor.

James 4:10 NLT

5. He stooped down to lift me out of danger from the desolate pit I was in, out of the muddy mess I had fallen into. Now he’s lifted me up into a firm, secure place and steadied me while I walk along his ascending path.

Taking Care Of You

In the beginning, God charged Adam with taking care of the earth. Throughout the Bible we read where God has since charged us with caring for the elderly, the widow and the orphan. We’re also to take care of the poor and needy. In all that caring for others, we might wonder who is supposed to care for us. Again, the Bible is clear on this one. It says that God will take care of you. We worry so much about things that are out of our control, but are in His. He is not going to leave you or forsake you. He’s clothed the fields with flowers and made sure the birds have food. After reminding us of this, Jesus said, “Aren’t you more valuable than them?” When we seek His kingdom, first, He takes care of everything else for us.

Here are some Bible verses on God taking care of you:

1. As a shepherd cares for his sheep on the day that he is among his scattered flock, so I will care for My sheep; and I will rescue them from all the places to which they were scattered on a cloudy and gloomy day.

Ezekiel 34:12 AMP

2. Give your burdens to the Lord, and he will take care of you. He will not permit the godly to slip and fall.

Psalms 55:22 NLT

3. Pour out all your worries and stress upon him and leave them there, for he always tenderly cares for you.

1 Peter 5:7 TPT

4. Therefore, angels are only servants—spirits sent to care for people who will inherit salvation.

Hebrews 1:14 NLT

5. Your righteousness is like the mighty mountains, your justice like the ocean depths. You care for people and animals alike, O Lord.

God Cares For You

One of the lies many people fall for is that God is waiting for you to mess up so He can zap you and send you to Hell. Another one is that He isn’t involved in your life, that He’s far away not really paying attention to you. The truth is that God cares deeply about you and your life. He’s cheering you on each day and genuinely wants the best for your life. He cares about your struggles, your illness and whatever you’re going through. All throughout the Bible we read that He is involved in the lives of His people and intervened constantly. They were people like you and me. I want you to know today that He cares for you and about you. Reach out to Him with whatever you need.

Here are some Bible verses showing God cares for you.

1. You can be sure that God will take care of everything you need, his generosity exceeding even yours in the glory that pours from Jesus. Our God and Father abounds in glory that just pours out into eternity.

Philippians 4:20 MSG

2. Casting all your cares [all your anxieties, all your worries, and all your concerns, once and for all] on Him, for He cares about you [with deepest affection, and watches over you very carefully].

1 Peter 5:7 AMP

3. For the Lord is our judge, our lawgiver, and our king. He will care for us and save us.

Isaiah 33:22 NLT

4. Give your burdens to the Lord, and he will take care of you. He will not permit the godly to slip and fall.

5. For the Lord takes care of all his forgiven ones while the strength of evil men will surely slip away.

Worship In The Valley

Two of the biggest lies we hear when we’re going through a difficult time is that no one else understands and that God doesn’t care. I remember hearing both and believing them. The first one tries to get you on a technicality because there is no one else with your exact situation. I’ve found that while our situations may be unique, the pain and the process we go through is very similar. While someone may not be able to fully understand my exact situation, they can identify with the pain. That leads us to the second lie that God doesn’t care. The lie wants you to think that if God cared, you wouldn’t be going through so much. The truth is that even though you walk through the valley of the shadow of death, He’s there with you to guide you and comfort you. He makes all things work together for our good.

I don’t know anyone who went through as much as Paul or Job. Job lost everything including his wealth, his kids and property. He still was able to worship God in that moment. In Job 2:9, when his wife told him to curse God and die, he responded, “Shall we accept good from God and not the trouble?” (NIV) When Paul was thrown in prison with Silas after having been beat, he invited God’s presence into the deepest, darkest part of that prison in the middle of the night by singing praises. When both of these men felt abandoned by people and God, they worshipped knowing that God dwells in the praises of His people. They held to the truth that God cares for us no matter how bad things may seem.

Psalm 31:7 says, “I will be glad and rejoice in your unfailing love, for you have seen my troubles, and you care about the anguish of my soul” (NLT). In the darkest nights of my life, the most painful times, I turned on praise and worship music to help me worship when I didn’t feel it. God is worthy of our praise no matter what it is we’re going through. He sees the anguish in our soul and He cares deeply for us. He knows that the pain, the hurt, the sadness and the darkness will only last for a little while. He never leaves us in those times though He may feel far away. He’s there leading us into a greater joy and life that often goes through the darkest valley. Don’t listen to the lies and despair. Listen to the truth and worship.

The Little Things

A while back, there was a concert my wife and I wanted to go to. On the day the tickets went on sale, I had two phones, an iPad and a laptop out trying to get tickets. After sitting in their digital waiting room for an hour, a message popped up saying they were sold out. As we got closer to the concert date I began looking at all the resale sites, but the ticket prices were outrageous. As we were driving down the road discussing it, my wife closed her eyes and said, “Lord, it would be awesome if you could give us free tickets to this concert. Amen.” I laughed internally and thought, “No one is going to give up their tickets, but ok God.” The day before the concert she got a message offering her free tickets to the concert. We were both blown away.

In 2 Kings 6, Elisha was the prophet of Israel, and the group of prophets who were with him decided the place where they were staying was too small. They wanted to build a bigger place, but Elisha didn’t think they needed to. After begging him to come, they went to the river to cut down trees to build a bigger place. Verse 5 says, “But as one of them was cutting a tree, his ax head fell into the river. ‘Oh, sir!’ he cried. ‘It was a borrowed ax!’” (NLT) Elisha had him point to the place where the ax head went into the water. He then threw in a stick and the ax head floated to the surface. The man grabbed it and went back to work.

Both stories remind me that God is concerned about the little things in our lives. Going to the concert didn’t change our lives, but God knew it was something we would appreciate. Sometimes we forget that like a parent, God just wants to bless His kids. We don’t need to feel like we’re bothering Him with the little things. He’s just as able to take care of the “little” requests in our lives as the “big” ones. God simply wants to be involved in our day to day lives instead of being our spiritual 9-1-1 call. He’s looking for relationship with us. If we’re going to have one with Him, then we need to let Him into all areas of our lives including the little ones.

All Access Pass

Have you ever met a person that you respected or admired, then got to have a real conversation with them? Then, at the end of the conversation, they gave you their number and said, “If you ever need anything, reach out to me.” I’ve had that happen a few times. I still have their cards, but I can tell you I’ve never called them. I’m too afraid that I’ll be seen as someone who abused the privilege of having access to them. I don’t want them to think I’m bothering them with a stupid request. So I hang onto my key to access them without ever accessing them.

The crazy thing is that many of us have that same attitude when it comes to accessing God. We think He’s got bigger problems to solve than ours. We reason that He doesn’t want to be bothered with our needs. We then try to justify, “He probably wouldn’t answer anyway.” So we hang onto our access to God, but we rarely access Him. I’m here to tell you that Jesus didn’t rip the veil between man and God for us to sit back. He invited us to come boldly into the Throne Room.

1 Corinthians 4:8 says, “You already have more access to God than you can handle” (MSG). Think about that. You and I have more access to God than we can handle. Access that He expects us to use. Whatever failures you point to, God can forgive. Whatever wisdom you need, God can give. Whatever problems you’re facing, God can resolve, but you have to access Him. You can’t just sit back and do nothing. Use your “All Access” badge, get into the Throne Room of Heaven and let God know your request.

God is able to handle the toughest problems of this world and your greatest need at the same time. You don’t need to feel ashamed or timid in approaching Him. His ways are not our ways and His wisdom is not our wisdom so He may answer in an unexpected way. Present your needs to Him without telling Him how to solve them. God is deeply concerned about the things you’re concerned about, and He has the power to resolve them. Don’t believe the lie that you need to leave Him alone. You have the access, now use it.
