The Call To Rest

One of the human conditions we are all susceptible to is getting tired. God knew that we wouldn’t stop or slow down unless He installed something in us to force us to rest. He also instituted the Sabbath to get us to stop at least one day a week. Rest is godly as much as working is. Remember God rested on the seventh day. How do you respond to getting tired or exhausted? Do you keep pushing or do you find rest? The Bible assumes we will get tired and weary, but it also expects a response from us. It should push us closer to God, but often we use it as an excuse to skip church, our Bible reading or prayer. God is the one who renews our mind, our strength and our body. Tiredness should cause us to take a break from everything else except what matters most.

Here are some Bible verses on being tired and needing renewal:

1. I’ll refresh tired bodies; I’ll restore tired souls.

Jeremiah 31:25 MSG

2. Even youths grow weary and tired, And vigorous young men stumble badly, But those who wait for the Lord [who expect, look for, and hope in Him] Will gain new strength and renew their power; They will lift up their wings [and rise up close to God] like eagles [rising toward the sun]; They will run and not become weary, They will walk and not grow tired.

Isaiah 40:30-31 AMP

3. Come to me, all of you who are tired from carrying heavy loads, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke and put it on you, and learn from me, because I am gentle and humble in spirit; and you will find rest. For the yoke I will give you is easy, and the load I will put on you is light.

Matthew 11:28-30 GNT

4. Strengthen the weak hands, And make firm the feeble knees. Say to those who are fearful-hearted, “Be strong, do not fear! Behold, your God will come with vengeance, With the recompense of God; He will come and save you.”

Isaiah 35:3-4 NKJV

5. So take a new grip with your tired hands and strengthen your weak knees. Mark out a straight path for your feet so that those who are weak and lame will not fall but become strong.

Hebrews 12:12-13 NLT
