The Light Of The Son

In the beginning, God spoke into the darkness, “Let there be light.” It was the first act of creation. That light made life possible on earth, allowed plants to grow and enabled sight. Centuries later, God spoke into our spiritual darkness to give us the light of the world through the birth of His son Jesus. He made eternal life possible, allowed spiritual growth and gave us insight into heavenly things. The prophesies of old said the Messiah would bring light into the world, and Jesus Himself referred to Himself as that light. It’s no wonder God used the light of a star to guide the wisemen to Him. Today, we follow the light of the Son and reflect His light through our lives pointing people to Him. This Christmas let your light shine brighter than ever.

Here are some Bible verses on Jesus being the light:

1. The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness, on them has light shone.

Isaiah 9:2 ESV

2. A fountain of life was in him, for his life is light for all humanity. And this Light never fails to shine through darkness— Light that darkness could not overcome!

John 1:4-5 TPT

3. I have seen your salvation, which you have prepared for all people. He is a light to reveal God to the nations, and he is the glory of your people Israel!

Luke 2:30-32 NLT

4. I have come into the world as light, so that everyone who believes in me should not remain in the darkness.

John 12:46 GNT

5. Once more Jesus addressed the crowd. He said, “I am the Light of the world. He who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life.”

John 8:12 AMP

The Light Of God

In the beginning, God said, “Let there be light.” The original audience didn’t think of this just as a beam of light. They saw it as God’s holiness and represented His nearness to us. The menorah in the Temple was a manifestation of that. Light was more than the what dispels darkness. It represented divine wisdom as well. So when Jesus came and said, “You are the light of the world,” He was saying we carry the divine presence with us. As we look through Scripture, think about this context to see how the early audience understood it.

Here are some Bible verses on the light of God:

1. For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

2 Corinthians 4:6 ESV

2. Then Jesus said, “I am light to the world, and those who embrace me will experience life-giving light, and they will never walk in darkness.”

John 8:12 TPT

3. Your word is a lamp to guide me and a light for my path.

Psalm 119:105 GNT

4. The eye is the lamp of the body; so if your eye is clear [spiritually perceptive], your whole body will be full of light [benefiting from God’s precepts].

Matthew 6:22 AMP

5. But if we are living in the light, as God is in the light, then we have fellowship with each other, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, cleanses us from all sin.

1 John 1:7 NLT

Living In The Light

In the beginning, when God created the heavens and the earth, the first thing He said was, Let there be light.” At that time darkness covered everything and God knew what the world would need first and most was light. It plays a significant role in life from plants to people. Psychologists have even studied the effects of light, and the absence of it, on humans. It is necessary for our overall wellbeing. God knew in the beginning that we needed it, so He spoke it into existence. When Adam and Eve sinned, the introduced a different kind of darkness into the world. Their sin brought death where God’s light had brought life. In Genesis 3:15 God spoke the first prophesy about a Savior who would come to redeem mankind from this darkness.

The disciple John started off his Gospel talking about Jesus in an interesting way. John 1:4-5 says, “In Him was life [and the power to bestow life], and the life was the Light of men. The Light shines on in the darkness, and the darkness did not understand it or overpower it or appropriate it or absorb it [and is unreceptive to it]” (AMP). Just like at the beginning of creation, God once again spoke light into our world. The light that Jesus brought into the world, through His birth, was to bring spiritual life and light back. His light shined into the darkness of sin that ruled the world at that time. Jesus’ birth signified an end to spiritual darkness and death, and there was nothing the darkness could do to stop it.

In John 8:12 Jesus said, “I am the Light of the world. He who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life.” We no longer have to stumble in the darkness of our sin when we follow Jesus as His disciples. We no longer have to suffer the consequences of life without light because of who He is and what He offers. If you’ve been stumbling around in the darkness or if you have allowed it back into your life, I want to encourage you to let the light that brings life back into your heart. The light that Jesus brought that first Christmas is available to you this Christmas. He wants to bring light where there is darkness, life where there is death and hope where there is despair. His light changes everything, and you have the choice to let it in to every area of your life. Stop walking in darkness and begin living in His light today.

The Light Of Life

John 1 starts out by saying, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God” (KJV). It’s always been curious to me that John described Jesus as “The Word”. When you go back to the Genesis account of creation, the very first words attributed to God are, “Let there be light.” I believe John called Jesus “The Word” in this context, because Jesus is light, and the light God created that day is still shining.

After God spoke light into existence, He sent His light into our world with the birth of His Son. Jesus is not just The Word Of God, He’s the Light of the World. You and I don’t have to walk in darkness, nor is there any darkness that can overpower the light He has put inside of you. We were meant to live in the light with The Light. Chase away whatever darkness is coming against you with the name of Jesus who is The Word Of God full of light.

Here are some Bible verses about Jesus being the Light.

1. The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light. They lived in a land of shadows, but now light is shining on them… A child is born to us! A son is given to us! And he will be our ruler. He will be called, “Wonderful Counselor,” “Mighty God,” “Eternal Father,” “Prince of Peace.”

Isaiah 9:2, 6 GNT

2. The Word was the source of life, and this life brought light to people. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has never put it out.

John 1:4-5 GNT

3. Arise [from spiritual depression to a new life], shine [be radiant with the glory and brilliance of the LORD ]; for your light has come, And the glory and brilliance of the LORD has risen upon you.

ISAIAH 60:1 AMP

4. Once more Jesus addressed the crowd. He said, “ I am the Light of the world. He who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life.”

JOHN 8:12 AMP

5. And I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven like a bride beautifully dressed for her husband… And the city has no need of sun or moon, for the glory of God illuminates the city, and the Lamb is its light.

Revelation 21:2, 23 NLT
